Tribeca Film Institute has selected 13 finalists from a pool of 115 submissions from New York City to screen at their annual “Our City, My Story” showcase on May 5 during the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. Each film focuses on New York City through the perspective of a filmmaker 21 years old or younger in the categories of animation, documentary, experimental, and narrative. Immediately following the screening one winning film will be announced in each category.

“Film is one of the most pervasive mediums of today and I strongly feel we must nurture both authenticity of expression and innovation. In our thick cultural times of 2019, it’s imperative we give young voices a platform to be heard–without pushing our agenda,” said Lily Baldwin, “Our City, My Story” juror. “The brazen and young individuals of NYC are the future and we must listen. For all of these reasons, it’s been an utter honor to jury for TFI’s Our City, My Story, a program that boldly supports all of the above.”

Three cheers for pupils in Cobble Hill’s Digital Art and Cinema Technology High School, who took home a big cash prize and were named winners in Samsung’s national Stem contest, Solve for Tomorrow. The local students’ project in sexual harassment stood out in the competition, which included many innovative ways to address important community issues by using skills in science, technology, engineering, and math, said a bigwig at Samsung.

The Complete Film Invitational Experience: 3 Day Shoot & Edit

This is the BIG ONE! The Complete F.I. Experience provides student filmmakers the opportunity to become a true independent film crew. Over the course of the 10-week pre-production period participating teams will be responsible for every aspect of creating a short narrative film: ideation, script writing, location scouting, casting, shoot schedules and more. This preparation is designed to put teams in the best possible position to successfully shoot and edit their film in New York City over the course of 3 days.

Congratulations to the 2018 Palazzo Strozzi winners Destinii Yearwood, Jaden Nurse, and Sanyia Julien. Through the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, these DT juniors will be studying abroad in Florence, Italy for one month this summer.

Digital Arts & Cinema Technology has been selected by IMAX as one of five high school film programs in the U.S. to create a documentary to further drive awareness of the global issues in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Special congratulations to Nadir Hepburn has been accepted to participate in the 2017-2019 Ghetto Film School Fellows Program.

The Fellows Program at GFS is a 30-month narrative filmmaking program for young NYC storytellers ages 14-18.  Fellows receive 1,000 hours of hands-on instruction and training in filmmaking from leading filmmakers and industry professionals. In addition students get to visit live sets and studios, screen their films at venues like Lincoln Center, and even have the opportunity to travel abroad to locations like Shanghai, London or Tel Aviv. It is a challenging and demanding introduction to cinematic storytelling that provides a foundation for future study and work.

Joshue Petion and Kimberly Leiba are the 2017 Palazzo Strozzi Renaissance Award Contest winners. They will studying in Florence at the NYU campus, Villa la Pietra for the month of July. During their stay they will visit important Renaissance sites in Florence and nearby cities in Tuscany; they will also travel to Venice, Milan and Rome.

Supporting the All-American High School Film Festival and working with the Tyler Clementi Foundation, AT&T has made addressing the rise of cyberbullying a priority. This support of the All-American High School Film Festival follows a first-of-its-kind poll commissioned with the Tyler Clementi Foundation this past March on cyberbullying. The team from Digital Arts and Cinema Technology High School was selected as one of the top 8 finalists in this year's film festival and will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

The AT&T Film Invitational is a10-week film competition that provides schools from around the country the chance to write, direct, shoot and edit an 8 minute film in New York City complete with professional mentorship, professional actors and historic landmark locations.

This year in collaboration with AT&T and the Tyler Clementi Foundation, high school filmmakers will be challenged to tackle the subject of cyber-bullying and risky online behavior. All films will be screened at the AMC Theaters in Times Square (the busiest movie theater in America) on Sunday, October 9th. Winners will be announced Sunday night at the Teen Indie Awards.

Brooklyn Borough President, Eric L. Adams, detailed more than $26 million invested in nearly 150 schools throughout Brooklyn focused on STEAM initiatives. As a part of this project, Digital Arts and Cinema Technology High School was granted $60,000 for technology in the digital arts and cinema production programs.

Borough Arts Fairs are a series of borough-wide events where students will showcase the visual and performing arts projects they’ve worked on throughout the school year at art galleries, theaters, museums, and public spaces like Brooklyn Borough Hall. This year, over 2,600 students in pre-K through 12th grade from 386 schools in all five boroughs will exhibit or perform their work. This year our school is represented by the artwork of 10th grader, Kiara Olmstead.
